Prospective Students
The Stuttering Lab welcomes curious, open-minded, self-motivated students of all levels who are eager to learn about the scientific process and social-emotional aspects of stuttering.
To facilitate a productive experience for all, undergraduate and master’s students who join the lab are expected to dedicate at least 5 hours per week in the lab for at least two consecutive semesters — either volunteering, registering for 2 s.h. of research credits per semester, or registering for thesis credits. Student responsibilities vary depending on the projects, lab needs, and students’ interests and could include:
- conducting literature reviews
- developing research questions
- preparing research tasks for participants
- collecting data from participants
- organizing, transcribing, and/or coding data
- disseminating research finding through conference posters and research articles
- developing science communication materials
In addition to these tasks, students are expected to participate in weekly lab meetings which often include team building, planning, problem-solving, peer mentoring, and student-led journal/podcast discussions.
